Success Story from our Drug Addiction Treatment Center

When I left home to come to Narconon Arrowhead's Drug Addiction Treatment Center, my relationship with my fiancé was at the lowest level possible. We had lost all trust and respect. I wasn’t able to stay with her because of my drug use and uncaring attitude. We couldn’t spend anytime together without fighting. We didn’t enjoy being together with each other. Since I’ve been here, all those negative things have turned around and we have started speaking, trusting and planning for our future lives together with our children. This is a direct result of my attendance at this drug rehab and my sobriety. L.O.

Heroin Drug

Heroin Drug
Heroin is a highly addictive illegal drug. During the 1800’s opium addiction was a major problem in the U.S. Morphine was developed as supposedly a non-addictive substitute for opium but proved to be even more addictive. The same is true of Heroin which was a supposedly non addictive replacement for morphine, but again is actually more addictive than opium or morphine. In more modern times we know have methadone as a supposed ‘solution’ to heroin addiction. Methadone is even more addictive than heroin. If withdrawal from heroin can be gruesome and harrowing, then methadone is even worse and can be life- threatening if unsupervised.

Drug Side Effects and Addiction

Drug Side Effects
In many cases addiction could be considered a side effect of drug use at abusive levels. No one intends to become an addict. Addiction begins with a problem, discomfort or some form of emotional or physical pain for a person. This person is, like most people in our society, basically good. But he encounters a problem that is causing him physical or emotional pain and discomfort and for which he does not have an immediate answer. Perhaps, as a child or teenager, he has difficulty “fitting in.” Or maybe there are physical injuries such as a broken bone, a bad back or some other chronic physical condition, or the person has suffered intolerable losses in life.

Long Term Addiction and Addiction

Long Term Addiction
Long term addiction is a phrase that could be applied to the condition wherein the addict has continued his addiction despite attempts to terminate it. We all know someone who has tried over and over to beat the addiction. There may have even been multiple visits to drug rehab facilities and just as many relapses following these visits. There are three key factors that lead to long term addiction with continual relapse. These are mental and physical cravings, guilt from all the damage caused, and depression resulting from the shattered hopes and dreams that the addiction has created. An addict is headed either towards, jail, death or sobriety. To achieve lasting sobriety the above three points must be fully resolved. Long term addiction is best addressed in a long term residential treatment environment.

Inpatient Drug Rehab and Addiction

Inpatient Drug Rehab
Addiction treatment services are not all equal. Finding the correct inpatient drug rehab is essential. Some are withdrawal services only. Some inpatient drug rehab services embrace a drug free approach to rehabilitation while others feel that somehow more or different drugs are the answer. 12 step rehabs are the norm but with dismally low success rates inpatient drug rehab treatment is moving more and more in a non-traditional direction. Narconon Arrowhead is a drug free, long-term inpatient drug rehab that has been embracing non-traditional methodology for over 40 years with success rates that are among the highest of all inpatient drug rehabs – non-traditional or not.

Marijuana Addiction and Addiction

Marijuana Addiction
The dangers and harm done by marijuana use has been under debate for decades and show no signs of lessening. Whether marijuana addiction exists or not is even more hotly debated. Addiction is a condition characterized by repeated compulsive seeking and use of drugs, alcohol or other substances despite adverse social, mental and physical consequences. When addiction exists, the drug controls the individual rather than the individual controlling the usage. Statistics do show increasing numbers of people entering addiction treatment reporting marijuana as their primary drug of abuse. Add to this the much stronger strains of marijuana available and the tendency to mix the drug with other substances such or crack and PCP and the potential for addiction becomes more pronounced. Rather than endlessly debate the issue, one should simply look at the marijuana use of self or a loved one against the above definition.
