Every graduation, on Friday, I reflect on my previous week. It is my way of inventorying my progress in this drug rehab program, as well as how I feel physically, mentally and emotionally. Long Term Effects of Addiction
Each drug, alcohol or toxin has its own long term effects as the result of
abuse and addiction. There are a couple of common denominators however when it comes to the long term effects of addiction.
One of these is the fact that these drugs and toxins can store in the fat tissues of the body for weeks, months, and even years after cessation of use. These can account for sometimes uncontrollable cravings for the drug or substance even though it hasn’t been used in sometime.
Strong feelings of guilt and depression are also common long term effects of
addiction due to sacrificing of integrity and values that accompanies the addictive lifestyle.
These three points are common to
addictions of all sorts and are the reason for continued use and relapse.

The dangers of
addiction are so numerous that it can’t really be spelled out in a short paragraph.

When this occurs personal certainty and belief begins to skyrocket and the individual attains the physical, mental, and emotional skills vital to sobriety, and knows he can remain clean for real, often for the first time since the
addiction began.
Alcohol
rehab means to restore the individual to the condition they were in prior to the
alcoholism and preferably an improved condition.
Accompanying any
alcoholism are cravings, guilt, and depression which must be confronted and fully resolved in order to achieve a lasting alcohol free lifestyle.
With alcoholism the only other options to sobriety are death or jail.
The last two need not occur with a competent alcohol
rehab program that fully resolves the above three factors.
If recovery means a return of something to a normal or improved state following a setback or loss then
addiction recovery is returning the addict to the state they were in prior to the
addiction and ideally an improvement on that.
